Lumbini is one of the most sacred Buddhist places in the world. It is the birthplace of Lord Buddha, who is the founder of Buddhism. He born as the prince Siddhartha Gautam in Shakya Dynasty in the garden of Lumbini in 623 BC. It is well supported by the historical reference that dates back to 294BC. An Indian Emperor visited the Lumbini and erected pillars with inscriptions in Lumbini, Niglihawa, and Gotihawa to memorialize his visit. Throughout the centuries, mostly prominently Seng-Tsai and Fa-Hasin (4th Century) and Hsuan-Tsang (7th Century) made reference to the temples and stupas with their writings.

Sightseeing in Lumbini offers both religious and also archeological elements, where we can see more than 62 archeological sites. All these carry the importance of different events of Lord Buddha’s life. Lumbini is located in the southern part of Nepal, in Kapilbastu. Every day there are numerous pilgrims visiting the site. There are also various Temple or Bihar of Lord Buddha built by different countries in their own style.

A big tick off my Bucket List View all

I have never thought of myself as a hiker or a trekker, but somehow, the idea of trekking through the Himalayas and venturing through Nepals and the worlds highest mountain seems exhilarating and almost out of reach. I did the trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in October 2013, and it was and still is one of the best experience in my life. We had Gyanu as our guide for the entire trip and not only has he been patient with a beginner trekker like myself, he explained and shared with us his cult Linda Nguyen
